Surroundings
San Pedro de Atacama offers the riches of a history still in the writing. As well as the impressive variety of natural phenomena in the area, there is also abundant evidence of its ancient archaeological history.
The present day Atacamanians take pride in their cultural identity. The well preserved architecture of the old town centre, as well as their keeping alive many ancient traditions around the deity concept, Pacha Mama (Mother Earth), are evidence of this pride.
Not to be missed on a visit to Chile: the ancient desert oasis town of San Pedro de Atacama and its prestigious archaeological Gustavo Le Paige Museum. In the surrounding area, you can delight in the surprising variety of flora and fauna like flamingos, lamas, alpacas, vicuñas and the cacti and high cordillera plant life in areas like The Geisers at El Tatio, the Salt Lakes and volcanos, and the sand dunes in Valley of the Moon….to name but a few.
With stunning settings, the archaeological ruins of the fort over the river, The Pukara de Quitor, the circular dwellings of Tulor (once buried in the sand) and the wealth of rock art in the whole area, there´s something for everyone in the Atacama Desert.
Excursions
Along the four main streets of San pedro is everything the tourist could need for the arrangement of minibus or 4/4 outings or bike rentals, horse rides, sand-boarding…and therefore the hotel limits its service in this area to general advice and information.
